Revealed: Reform rakes in £20m in donations from crypto investors

Nigel Farage and his Reform UK party have secured a staggering twenty million pounds in donations from cryptocurrency investors since the start of the year, according to an analysis of Electoral Commission data. This influx of wealth represents roughly sixty percent of the right wing group’s total funding, marking a significant shift in how the party sustains itself. The bulk of these funds came from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne, who contributed fifteen million pounds to the party, though a separate five million pound payment made directly to Mr. Farage remains under parliamentary investigation.

The donor list reads like a directory of the digital asset elite, featuring figures such as BitMex founder Ben Peter Delo and various high net worth bitcoin traders. While some Conservative MPs have received modest contributions from crypto interests, neither Labour nor the Liberal Democrats appear to have accepted similar support. Instead, Sir Keir Starmer has maintained a strict distance from the sector, implementing a temporary ban on cryptocurrency donations amid broader concerns regarding foreign electoral interference.

Critics within the Labour Party have wasted no time in condemning the arrangement, suggesting that Reform UK is essentially being funded by a narrow slice of the tech industry to push specific legislative agendas. Bridget Phillipson accused Mr. Farage of dodging scrutiny over his financial ties, while other lawmakers warned that allowing such massive sums to flow into political coffers risks distorting British democracy. There are growing fears among observers that these donors are seeking a direct return on their investment through favorable regulatory changes.

For his part, Nigel Farage has remained steadfast in his vision to transform London into a global hub for crypto trading. His party has actively campaigned for a liberalization of the market and opposed state intervention, echoing policies championed by Donald Trump in the United States. Despite calls for greater transparency and warnings about potential conflicts of interest, Reform UK maintains that all its fundraising adheres strictly to current legal guidelines and vetting procedures.
