Stock Report: Standouts From Defensive Slugfest in Minnesota

The Baltimore Ravens continued their dominant stretch through the preseason with a gritty 13-3 victory over the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium. Following two intense days of joint practices, the Ravens’ defense maintained its suffocating presence, delivering exactly what head coach Jesse Minter wanted to see by forcing turnovers and closing out the game strongly. It was a low scoring affair characterized by a defensive slugfest, but several players managed to separate themselves from the pack in a high stakes environment.

Up front, the Ravens’ defensive line owned the trenches, creating constant headaches for both J.J. McCarthy and Carson Wentz. Rookie Rayshaun Benny provided a highlight with a sack to close the first half, while Aeneas Peebles and David Olajiga kept the pressure relentless throughout the afternoon. Outside linebacker Mike Green lived up to the hype surrounding his sophomore season, showcasing his explosive edge rush with a sack of McCarthy and subsequent pressures that disrupted the Vikings’ rhythm. Another bright spot on the perimeter was Ethan Burke, who proved disruptive with a forced fumble and a late fourth quarter sack.

On the offensive side of the ball, undrafted rookie quarterback Joe Fagnano displayed impressive poise in the pocket, directing the only touchdown drive of the match. He connected with Devontez Walker for a big gain before finding LaJohntay Wester for an eight yard score; Wester ended the day as a reliable target with five receptions. Tight end Josh Cuevas also emerged as a productive weapon, leading the team in receiving yards after providing critical catches early in the contest to keep drives alive.

Special teams provided some much needed stability for those fighting for roster spots. Kicker Tyler Loop silenced critics by drilling a 49 yard field goal, redeeming himself after missing from that exact distance earlier in the preseason. Meanwhile, punter Ryan Eckley turned things around after an uneven debut, booming multiple punts near sixty yards and pinning Minnesota inside their own five yard line once. Despite some early struggles from first round pick Vega Ioane on the offensive line and occasional lapses from Silas Walters in coverage, these individual successes suggest Baltimore is building significant depth ahead of training camp’s conclusion.
