Ravens preseason stock report: young defenders dominate vs. Vikings

The Baltimore Ravens secured a gritty 13-3 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in their second preseason matchup, but the final score told only half the story. While the win keeps the momentum moving forward, the real narrative emerging from the contest was the surge of young defensive talent fighting for a permanent home on the roster. Several newcomers turned heads in Minnesota, proving that the depth chart is far from settled as training camp winds down.

Undrafted rookie Ethan Burke emerged as a standout performer, practically stuffing every available category on the stat sheet. With two tackles, two passes defended, a sack, and a forced fumble, Burke displayed an instinctive knack for finding the football. His ability to disrupt coverage and create turnovers has put him on a collision course with other hopefuls for an outside linebacker spot, specifically putting pressure on third-round pick Adisa Isaac, who remained largely invisible for the second consecutive game. Joining Burke in the spotlight were Mike Green and Aeneas Peebles, both of whom provided consistent pressure up front and signaled they are ready to be disruptive forces for the defense this fall.

On offense, undrafted quarterback Joe Fagnano continued to impress with his poise under center. Although leaping over Tyler Huntley for the primary backup role remains unlikely, Fagnano’s accuracy and composure during high-pressure moments have made it increasingly difficult for coaching staff to justify cutting him. Meanwhile, rookie tight end Josh Cuevas stepped into the limelight by leading the team with 46 receiving yards on three catches, providing a glimpse of how he might complement teammate Matthew Hibner in a rotation this season.

Not everyone saw their value rise during the trip to Minnesota. Offensive lineman Vega Ioane experienced some growing pains after a stellar debut last week, struggling with missed blocks and penalties that reminded observers he is still adjusting to the speed of professional play. However, special teams offered a bright spot via punter Ryan Eckley. After a shaky start to his career last week, Eckley dominated his outings against the Vikings, averaging over 55 yards per punt and pinning opponents deep in their own territory multiple times throughout the afternoon.
