    World Liberty Financial | Trump’s crypto U-turn

Donald Trump once viewed cryptocurrency with open disdain, famously dismissing Bitcoin as a scam based on thin air and arguing that such assets undermined the strength of the American dollar. However, since returning to the White House, the president has executed a dramatic u-turn, pivoting from a skeptic to a champion who vows to turn the United States into the crypto capital of the planet. This ideological shift has translated into massive personal wealth, with recent financial disclosures showing he earned over 1.4 billion dollars from various crypto ventures, including his own meme coin and the ambitious project known as World Liberty Financial.

At the center of this new empire is World Liberty Financial, a venture involving several members of the Trump family and close allies. The project recently received conditional approval from federal regulators to establish a trust bank capable of issuing USD1, a dollar-backed stablecoin currently valued at 4 billion dollars. While these moves align with his legislative efforts to integrate Bitcoin into a strategic national reserve, they have sparked intense debate over where public policy ends and private profit begins. Critics argue that having the president’s immediate family leading a firm that benefits directly from government regulatory shifts creates an unprecedented conflict of interest.

Adding fuel to the fire are revelations regarding foreign influence within the organization. Reports indicate that Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed al Nahyan, the national security adviser for the United Arab Emirates, along with co-investors, holds a substantial 49 percent stake in the bank’s holding company. This investment reportedly funneled hundreds of millions of dollars toward Trump family entities just days before his inauguration in early 2025. Given that the UAE remains a critical geopolitical partner during ongoing tensions and military instability in West Asia, the partnership raises serious ethical questions about whether a sitting president can safely accept deep financial ties with foreign officials.

As World Liberty Financial continues to generate significant interest income through its reserves, the overlap between diplomacy and digital finance grows more complex. With CEOs and founders drawn from his inner circle and diplomatic envoys, the administration finds itself under scrutiny for blurring lines that traditionally separate state governance from familial gain. For many observers, what began as a political pivot to attract campaign donations has evolved into a sophisticated financial machine that challenges traditional notions of presidential ethics and international transparency.
