Risk Aversion Grips Markets as Bitcoin Slides Amid Macroeconomic Pressure

It was a challenging start to the week for risk assets on Monday, as Bitcoin dipped below the 83,000 dollar mark. The cryptocurrency felt the weight of a strengthening U.S. dollar and rising bond yields, which dampened investor appetite across the board. While Bitcoin managed to recover some ground toward the end of the session, it hit a low near 82,300 dollars during a volatile afternoon that saw other major tokens like Ether and Solana follow suit with similar declines.

The turbulence extended well beyond the crypto markets into traditional finance and technology sectors. The Nasdaq 100 finished the day down 0.7 percent, reflecting a broader retreat from high growth stocks. Even AI-adjacent companies weren’t immune to the sell off, with Micron Technology sliding below 1,000 dollars for the first time since September. Meanwhile, energy markets remained tense as oil prices hovered near 93 dollars a barrel due to ongoing supply concerns.

Within the crypto ecosystem, specialized firms faced significant headwinds. Tokenization company Securitize led the decline among related stocks with a sharp drop of 14 percent, erasing many of its recent gains. Bitcoin miners who have pivoted toward AI infrastructure also saw their share prices slip by several percentage points, though IREN provided a rare bright spot after securing a multiyear cloud services deal with AI firm Anthropic.

Despite the immediate price dip, some heavy hitters continued their aggressive accumulation strategies. Strategy added another 250 bitcoin to its massive treasury last week, while Bitmine neared the completion of its ambitious goal to own five percent of all existing ether. Investors are now looking ahead to Wednesday’s U.S. inflation report, which is expected to be the primary driver for whether these assets can reclaim their momentum or continue to slide under macroeconomic pressure.
