Crypto Weekly Digest | Bitcoin Pulls Back to $80047; NFP Triggers $200M Liquidation; Whale Dumps $345M ETH

It was a volatile week for the cryptocurrency market as Bitcoin struggled to maintain its footing above the psychological threshold of 80,000 dollars. While the digital asset saw a slight weekly gain, ending around 79,382 dollars, the mood shifted quickly following the release of strong U.S. non-farm payrolls data. The unexpected resilience of the labor market reignited fears of persistent inflation and potential interest rate hikes, triggering a sharp dip that wiped out over 200 million dollars in leveraged positions almost instantly. Despite this turbulence, some institutional players viewed the pullback as a buying opportunity, with whales accumulating roughly 521 million dollars worth of Bitcoin during the slide.

Ethereum faced its own set of challenges as a massive institutional sell off dampened its upward momentum. Data revealed that a single whale transferred approximately 345 million dollars worth of ETH to centralized exchanges over a four day period. This aggressive distribution likely acted as a ceiling for the price, which hovered around 2,508 dollars despite new institutional gateways opening up in the UAE via Standard Chartered. Meanwhile, on the sovereign front, Bhutan continued to trim its holdings by transferring about 30 million dollars in Bitcoin for treasury rebalancing, adding another layer of supply pressure to an already jittery market.

Looking ahead, investor sentiment remains characterized by greed according to the Fear and Greed Index, but caution is creeping back in regarding macroeconomic headwinds. Much depends on upcoming inflation reports and whether Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell maintains a hawkish tone. While high beta altcoins like Chainlink and Sui showed impressive strength this week, Bitcoin continues to dominate nearly sixty percent of the total market share. For now, traders are caught in a tug of war between AI driven optimism in tech stocks and the looming threat of higher for longer interest rates that could stifle risk appetite across all digital assets.
