Dairy company Chobani to invest $1.2 billion in Pennsylvania, creating hundreds of jobs in Upper Macungie Township

The Lehigh Valley is poised for a massive economic boost as dairy giant Chobani prepares to plant its roots in Pennsylvania. In an ambitious expansion plan announced Tuesday, the company committed to investing 1.2 billion dollars over the next five years to launch its first operational hub within the state. The move signals a significant bet on the region’s agricultural infrastructure and workforce.

At the center of this development is Upper Macungie Township, where Chobani will take over the existing manufacturing facility previously operated by Keurig Dr. Pepper. By repurposing this site, the company aims to streamline its production capabilities while integrating itself into the local economy. Governor Josh Shapiro joined Chobani’s CEO at a farm in Schnecksville to finalize the details of the partnership, highlighting the strategic importance of the deal for both the government and private sector.

Beyond the physical footprint of the factory, the investment promises a substantial windfall for local farmers and job seekers. The project is expected to generate more than 900 new jobs, providing a surge of employment opportunities for residents across the valley. Furthermore, Chobani plans to source upwards of 3 billion pounds of Pennsylvania milk annually, ensuring that regional dairy producers have a consistent and high-volume buyer for their products.

This transition marks a pivotal shift for Upper Macungie Township as it pivots from beverage bottling back toward large scale food production. Local officials and industry analysts view the arrival of such a globally recognized brand as a catalyst for further growth in the area, blending industrial modernization with Pennsylvania’s deep rooted farming heritage.
