Live updates: Bitcoin climbs over $80,000 as crypto shakes off Clarity failure and higher interest rates

Bitcoin defied traditional market gravity this week, surging past the 81,000 dollar mark and erasing previous losses despite a challenging macroeconomic backdrop. While major U.S. indices like the S&P 500 and Nasdaq dipped into the red and the 10 year Treasury yield climbed above five percent, the cryptocurrency sector staged a dramatic recovery. This rally comes immediately after a volatile period where prices slid toward 75,000 dollars following interest rate hikes from the Federal Reserve and the legislative failure of the Clarity Act.

The momentum extended far beyond Bitcoin, lifting several other major assets and their associated ecosystems. Ether saw significant gains reaching nearly 2,600 dollars, while Solana outperformed much of the market by hitting a seven month high of 112 dollars. This surge triggered a massive ripple effect through Solana’s decentralized finance protocols, sending tokens like Jupiter and Raydium soaring between fifteen and twenty percent. Publicly traded crypto firms mirrored this optimism, with MicroStrategy and Gemini seeing double digit percentage jumps in their share prices.

Market analysts noted that this rapid ascent caught bearish traders completely off guard, resulting in a short squeeze that wiped out approximately 470 million dollars in derivative positions. About 238 million dollars of those losses belonged specifically to Bitcoin bears, which likely acted as rocket fuel for the rally as forced liquidations triggered automatic buying orders. Adding to the bullish sentiment was a proposal submitted by the CFTC regarding crypto asset transactions, signaling potential progress in U.S. regulatory clarity that investors have long craved.

While the digital asset world celebrated, traditional financial markets remained turbulent. In Japan, a rate hike by the Bank of Japan failed to stop the slide of the yen, adding pressure to international currency stability. Meanwhile, one of the biggest stories in legacy finance emerged as Warren Buffett announced he is stepping down as chairman of Berkshire Hathaway after six decades at the helm. Though Buffett has historically been a vocal critic of Bitcoin, his departure marks the end of an era just as crypto appears increasingly resilient to the very economic pressures that usually stifle its growth.
