Does Billionaire Bill Ackman Know Something Wall Street Doesn’t? He Invested in These 2 Stocks That Have Dropped 33% and 18% Over the Past Year

When a seasoned investor like Bill Ackman makes a move, the rest of Wall Street tends to lean in and listen. The founder and CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management has built a reputation for outperforming the S&P 500 over several decades, meaning his portfolio shifts are often viewed as blueprints for success. His latest activity has sparked curiosity among traders because he is betting big on companies that others seem to be fleeing. Specifically, Ackman has recently expanded his holdings in Netflix and Uber Technologies, two stocks that have struggled significantly over the last twelve months.

Netflix has been particularly volatile, sliding 33 percent over the past year. Investors have grown uneasy over slowing revenue growth and a decision by the company to reduce the frequency of its viewer engagement reports, leading some to question if the streaming giant can keep monetizing its audience effectively. However, those following Ackman’s lead argue that Netflix has a history of pivoting under pressure. From cracking down on password sharing to introducing an ad-supported tier, the company knows how to evolve. With potential moves into live TV and sports streaming on the horizon, along with an ambitious goal for ad revenue, the current price drop may look more like a discount than a warning sign.

Uber is facing its own set of hurdles, with shares dropping 18 percent after disappointing quarterly updates and cautious forward guidance. There is also a lingering fear that the rise of autonomous robotaxis might eventually render Uber’s driver-based model obsolete. Yet, Ackman seems to view these technological shifts as catalysts rather than threats. By integrating artificial intelligence to slash customer service costs and partnering with Rivian to bring tens of thousands of autonomous electric vehicles onto its platform by 2028, Uber is positioning itself to lead the next era of transport rather than be replaced by it.

Ultimately, these contrarian bets suggest that Ackman sees fundamental strength where others see temporary weakness. While the broader market focuses on short-term misses and headwind anxieties, Pershing Square appears focused on long-term dominance in digital entertainment and urban mobility. Whether this strategy pays off depends on if Netflix can conquer live broadcasting and if Uber can successfully transition toward automation, but for now, billions of dollars are betting that these dips are merely stepping stones to higher peaks.
